Essential oils

Every young parent knows the struggle of wondering how to turn your entire household into a baby or a kids-safe space. How to turn every product in your home into a kid-friendly one. This has a been a fad that has been growing in the last few decades and you might say it has reached its peak.

This kid safety is a measure that is important because the less harmful things there are around your kid the better, of course. But since you cannot stop it from being exposed to harmful products in the real world, at least at your home you can do your best to turn it into a safe space.

Some of the things you can change in your home to make it safer for your kids is to switch your laundry detergent with a green or a kid-friendly one. And of course, the other major important part is cleaning. You would need to make sure that every product that is being used in your home is safe and does not release a ton of toxic chemicals into the air.

There are a few ways you can achieve that. One, of course, is to buy green and eco-friendly cleaning products. But I do not recommend this choice because there is an even better alternative that is easily achieved if you just spare some time once in a while. And that is – home made cleaning products.

Home made cleaning products are easily prepared, they have all natural ingredients, no chemicals are included and can also be enhanced and improved by adding a few magical potions, also known as essential oils.

There are lists with essential oils that are safe to use around babies and kids but as a whole they are all safe. Of course, you should be careful that they do not ingest them! But as far as cleaning goes, you can use pretty much all of them and incorporate them into your cleaning products.

Some of the advantages of using home made cleaning products and essential oils are – they are kid friendly, of course. But also these kinds of products are frugal, eco-friendly, easy to make and do a fantastic job.

Some essential oils that you can use are – lavender, lemon, citruses, thieves, tea tree, eucalyptus, and others.

All of the above mentioned essential oils can be added to all kinds of home made cleaning products – kitchen or bathroom cleaners, air fresheners, wood polishers, dusting sprays, all-purpose cleaners, disinfectants, etc.

Here are some exemplary recipes you can do with essential oils that are safe to use around kids, and if your kids are old enough to help you with the chores around the house they can even use them to clean.

For a simple all-purpose cleaner recipe courtesy of Top Fulham Cleaners, mix 2 cups of water and 2 cups of white vinegar, then add a teaspoon of any natural dish soap, then 30 drops of a lemon essential oil and you can even add 20 drops of melaleuca (or eucalyptus or a tea tree oil) essential oil to enhance its strength.

A mirror or a window cleaning spray – mix 3 cups of distilled water and add ¼ cup of vinegar and a ¼ cup of rubbing alcohol and 20 drops peppermint. Mix them all in a spray bottle and make sure you shake it well.

These and many more recipes are the simplest and safest choice for you and your household when there are kids around. When the kids’ health is at stake you can never be completely relaxed that you have done everything.

Use essential oils in your daily cleaning routine and even make air fresheners (the most simple recipe of all) and enjoy a clean, safe and fresh home.
